About Equifax.com
Equifax, one of the three major
credit bureaus (Transunion and Experian are the other two).
At the
Equifax website, you can
obtain a free credit report annually or opt to enroll in credit
monitoring service for $12.95 a month. This service offers
24 hour notification of changes in your credit score, as well as
constant access to all three of your credit reports. This
allows you to keep on top of any changes or errors that may affect
your credit score, as well as monitor against identity theft.
A key function of Equifax.com is the online
credit dispute form. This useful tool allows you to submit a
formal request to have a mistake removed from your credit report.
However, complex credit report disputes are often difficult to
pursue online. If that is the case, the best course of
action may be to contact Equifax online or via mail at:
Equifax Information Services LLC
P.O. Box 740256
Atlanta, GA 30374
You can also contact them by phone to report
and stop any identity theft activity at 1-888-766-0008.
In order to complete your request to dispute
incorrect items on your credit report or prevent identity theft,
you will need to provide the operator with the following
information:
- Your
Equifax file number, if you already have a copy of your
Equifax Credit report
-
Social Security number
- Date
of birth
-
Current address
-
Company name of the disputed item (as listed on your credit
report)
-
Account number of the disputed item (as listed on your credit
report)
-
Reason for your dispute (such as, it is not your account, or
you have paid the debt)
- Any
corrections to your personal information (address, phone
number, etc.)
For more information on
Equifax visit their
website or contact them directly at 1-888-766-0008.
